Hamirpur is one of districts in Himachal Pradesh, India. It is famous for the National Institute Of Technology.Hamirpur is a central Distt. of Himachal Pradesh. This is not only the tourism potential Distt. of Himachal Pradesh but also as historical importance. This history of Hamirpur is closely associated with the Katoch dynasty Hamirpur was the part of old Jallandhar-Trigarta empire.
Panin referred to the people of this Kingdom as great warrious and fighters. The Katoch dynast became predominating during the period of Raja Hair Chand who ruled from 1700 A.D. to 1740 A.D. It was Raja Hamir Chand who built the fort at Hamirpur and the present town derived its name from this ruler.
Situated at an altitude of 785 meters, Hamirpur is a District Headquarters. It is on a busy highway, therefore, tourist coming from Shimla and Chandigarh to Kangra, Dharamsala, Nurpur, Dalhousie, Khajjiar and Chamba were not find the wayside amenities anywhere in district Hamirpur. Even being the thickly populated town the local residents were also not have any place to eat in a proper restaurant. No conference/multipurpose hall was also available in the area.
ACCESS: The airport at Gaggal (Kangra) is 83 km. The closet braod gauge railhead is at Pathankot 185 km at Kangra. Taxis and buses are available at all these places. By road it is 94 km from Dharamsala 206 km from Chandigarh.
CLIMATE: In winter, the climate is cold but pleasant when woollens are required. During summer the temperature is hot and cotton are recommended.
TIRA SUJANPUR (25 km): The place was founded by Raja Abhey Chand, the kind of ruling Katoch dynasty of Kangra in 1748 A.D. Bulit in 1758, the Tira fortunes has remains of halls, Places and Temple, Below the Fort, the famous Chargoan has a great attractions which is surrounded by the town of Sujanpur. There are five old temples, of which Gauri Shankar, Murlimanhor, Narbadeshwar dedicated to Rishi Vyas. From the temple Complex of Narbadeshwar, the wide view of river Beas is worth seeing. State level Holi fair is held in the Sujanpur Chargoan during the month of March every year.
NADAUN(27 km): In the past it used to be the Headquarters of Nadaun Jagir, Maharaja Sansar Chand of Kangra. The place is famous for Blikeshwar Mahadev temple which is said to have been founded in AD 1929. It has remains of a couple of old places.
BHOTA (15 km): This beautiful place is located on Dharamsala-Shimlaroad and the road leads Una to Kullu at a distance of 15km from Hamirpur towards Bilaspur.
DEOTHSIDH (44 km): this is a famous pilgrimage Centre dedicated to Sidh.
