Introducation of Chail
At an elevation of 2250 m above the sea level, is the hill resort of Chail developed by the indian king rather than the British. it is that due to some disagreement between them, Lord Kitchner, Commander-in-Chief disallowed Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala to enter Shimla in the year 1891 AD. Maharaja, whose pride was hurt, decided to develop a better summer resort for himself. This is how Chail was developed as a hill station. Chail had everything that Shimla possess and a little more of natural beauty, as it was built by the Maharaja to meet all his requirements.
Chail is built over three hills. The Palace of Maharaja is on the Rajgarh Hill. Residency Snow View, residence of a British is on the Pandaen Hill. Sabba Tibba, the township of Chail is on the third hill. The Palace of Maharaja has been converted into a hotel run by Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation. Maharaja had planned to make hiss summer retreat very comfortable. Therefore there are several hunting and fishing lodges. Maharaja of Patiala developed a cricket ground at Chail. it is the highest cricket ground in india. Chail also has one of the highest golf courses in india.
The river Satluj cascading through the mountains down the valley makes a mesmerizing sight. Chail was declared as the Wildlife Sanctuary on 21st March 1976. The sanctuary spreads over an area of 1085336 hectares. The tourists can go on excursion tours to Siddh Baba Temple, Khaidun, Kali ka Tibba, Sadhupul, Kufri and Shimla.
Chail is also ideal for adventure sports like angling and trekking. Guara River is perfect for angling of Mahaseer Fish. Few high altitude trekking routes in Chail are the Kandaghat-Chail, Chail-Rajgarh and Chur Chandini and Chail-Shimla via Junga.
